Historie

Our history - from the beginning until today:

Foundation of our company by Anton Geilen. At the beginning there are three employees who mine the basalt lava underground and then sell it unprocessed.

1903

After the Second World War, Wilhelm Geilen, son of Anton Geilen, takes over the business. Now a sawmill is being built next to the quarry, so that the simple processing of the material can be carried out independently. Until 1964, the basalt lava was only mined underground.

1945

1968

Reinhold Geilen continues his father's business. Another quarry is bought and the processing of the specially obtained basalt lava is expanded. In addition, granite and marble are imported as raw goods from southern Europe, processed and laid at the customer. The number of employees increases to approx. 20 people.

Around 1990

Basalt window frames for churches are planned and produced in the natural stone factory. Orders required a very precise way of working and at the same time were very time and cost intensive.

1997

Robert Walter Geilen takes over his father's business. Before that, the two men ran the business together for many years. Together they opened up the Barbara quarry (front, photo), where our basalt lava is still mined today. The production halls, built in 1995 and still in operation today, can be traced back to their work.

2018

After more than four decades in the company, Robert W. Geilen sells the company. On the legal side, there is a change to a GmbH. The company is no longer owned by the Geilen family, but son Christoph Geilen has remained true to the family tradition. As a trained stonemason, he continues to lead the production of the natural stone factory.
